I have been doing the Envelope System for a while now but haven't had the official Ramsey system. I have been using plain mailing envelopes. I love how it is all written out for you and you can knew exactly what to do. We have saved so much money using this system. I would recommend it to everyone wanting to get out of debt and save money.
At first, I was turned off because I thought I needed something a bit more 'colorful' but after using this wallet I actually prefer that it's so basic, it has everything you need without any 'fluff' or gimmicky accessories. This is month 2 of using it and our finances have gotten a lot better, I watch what I spend now instead of just impulse ordering from Amazon like crazy at 11pm (horrible habit I had to break!) Even our grocery bill has lowered.I feel that the quality of the wallet itself is fantastic, no wear after heavy usage, I do need to buy the replacement envelopes but only because we have written on them and need more space, otherwise they've held up just fine.This is a game changer, I'm bummed out that it took us so long to take the plunge into this envelope system!
First off, get the app Every Dollar to get your budget in place. You can access the site online (google it) and create your budget there and it will also be in your phone. It's super easy and you can track everything on your computer or phone. No excuses! :-)This executive envelopes are to hold everything once you've made a budget, and the app and online version from Dave is pretty awesome and it's free.This trifold is something you do not want to carry around all the time because, to state the obvious, it holds all your cash. It has 8 envelopes that are spiral bound and 4 loose ones. It also has a coin pouch and a pad of paper and pen. The binding itself is really nice. I wish the envelopes were a little bigger unless I get hundred dollar bills instead of twenties for my grocery budget. Also the lines are super small to write on. Overall, it will help.
This did not work for me. The envelopes are paper, the more you use them, the more they rip. I ended up going to a mesh/fabric envelope that has zippers and they hold up much better.Another problem, since I had cash for: groceries, gas, health & beauty, date night, & misc (only $300.00) - it took up so much room and the wallet would not close well. It was frustrating as it would open in my purse.I still follow the Dave Ramsey System - HIGHLY recommend everyone learn about cash & envelopes... However, I do not recommend this.
I really wanted to love this product. We started the envelope system and wanted something easier then physically carrying 12 envelopes all the time. The problem with this envelope system is that it’s to small. Once you put money in all the envelopes it doesn’t close well. Also it doesn’t have a place for change (it does for cards) so I still have to carry my wallet. Also the envelopes are not good quality where you can reuse them month after month. We’ve been using it for less then two weeks and several of the envelopes are already ripped. Overall it may be with it if you are single and on a single budget. It doesn’t work well for a family budget. And the quality isn’t good. Over all not worth the money I wasted and I wish it was worth sending it back.
I ordered this because it was 'deluxe', but it's not as well made as the original Dave Ramsey wallet. The coin purse really doesn't stay closed, and it's a super cheap plastic zipper that, even if it does close, pops back open sometimes. Aside from that it's *ok*, but I was expecting something a little better made. I'm going back to the original DR wallet, which has lasted me years.
I have taken the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace course before, and became very interested in using the cash system. I had tried using regular letter envelopes, but that did not work well as I was continually losing the change and not tracking all purchases.I purchased this cash system set, and I am so happy I did. There is plenty of room for all of my needed cash categories. Inside the leather notebook you receive cash envelopes + extras, a notepad, change pouch, and pen. The envelopes give a place to track the cash.Considering everything you get it is a bit bulky, and will not fit inside a pocket or small purse. The system is easy to use once you get it down.
I've been using it for about a moth and it has definetly been a big help. My spending is a lot better thanks to this; however, if I was you I would not carry the whole thing with you. I would take the extra envelopes and would put the money in that and that that shopping instead of the whole thing. Its less dangerous and if you think about it stops you from random stuff. I could never explain how wonderful this Deluxe Envolope system folder thing is!! I was very pleased with it :)
