This was an absolute doozie to read!Adele was perfectly demure and appropriate, but behind her facade hid a passionate personality as well as a cunning-and deeply observational-mind. Adele traps Malloryn into a most inconvenient marriage never expecting feelings to come of it.Malloryn, (Auvry) is fiercely protective of his motley family of spies and loyal to his Queen, but it was his moments of intense curiosity and passionate nature peeking through that I enjoyed most!When I first started this series, the impression of Adele through everyone else’s viewpoint, especially Malloryn’s, was distinctly NOT in her favor. Why did Adele choose Malloryn? What would she gain? Was there an ulterior motive? I don’t even know why I was questioning matters?! McMaster has this diabolical method of setting the game pieces on the board in such a way that when the AHA! moment hits and the sunshine comes out from behind the clouds, all you can think is “I can’t believe I didn’t see that coming!!â€(Obviously, McMaster did her job pretty darned well, because I was totally sold on Adele and Malloryn’s relationship! There were so many surprises keeping me on the edge of my seat until the end!)This was a flipping fantastic conclusion to an amazing series! Malloryn and Adele were a perfect balance of witty repartee and keen intelligence giving new meaning to battle of the sexes! Mixing those elements along with their enticing attraction to one another was icing on the cake!
Truly a grand finale of the series! The Duke of Malloryn has totally owned the Finale, the exact same way he owned the series. His hidden attractiveness just exploded as soon as he was free to be both Auvry Cavill and the Duke of Malloryn. All the thanks went to Adele, his Duchess, who was so perfect as his wife, his partner, and his lover. Loved them together so much!Their path toward a happy ending was no way smooth. Adele's insecurities were life long nurtured. While the Duke's icy self control locked the man's feelings tightly inside. The fun began when Adele went for broke and let loose her innocent and seductive fire to lick through the Duke's icy control and literally burn through it. If you happened to look for a sensual read on a Valentine's night, this one was for you.What about the extremely eventful path to the happy ending? The story was definitely soaked and splashed with buckets of blood both red and blue, while the Queen's Ivory Tower and various structures and more were blasted and blown into rubbles. The Duke, the Duchess, and his COR family of superior fighters, were always one and two steps behind their nemesis, Lord Balfour and his army. I was totally mesmerized and amazed at the outcome of the final battle! Nothing could be more satisfied than witnessing the bloody defeat of the enemies and finally the total eradication of all of them in one night!
It happened... it finally happened you guys... there are no more words left... I finished the book... one of my most highly anticipated releases of the entire year... and not it's over... *lifts head up from my kindle and looks around* how am I supposed to go back to my normal life now? I fell head over heels into this absolutely amazing steampunk world with paranormal vibes that Bec created and I don't want to leave it... going into this concluding novel, I had my expectations set high... very high... like right up there in the stratosphere high... ;) and I was not disappointed, because this novel has it all... :) but before I get to share with you all the love I have for it, I have to tell you a few basic informations, for those of you who are new to this world, especially since this is the final book in a spin-off series :) don't worry, most of my review will be completely spoiler free and any information that might be considered spoilery will be clearly marked with a warning before :) ok, so let's talk some more about the world :)The original series, London steampunk, as well as this spin-off one, London steampunk the blue blood conspiracy, takes place in an alternate Victorian London, where besides humans, who are not very powerful, we have a few other groups... there are blue bloods, similar to vampires, who are the ruling force in London... with a thirst for blood, stronger and faster than humans, they are a force to be reckoned with... then there arealso verwulfen, treated mostly like animals and slaves, they are also strong and very hard to kill... and let's not forget about mechs, humans with mechanical parts, who traded years of their lives for them, and work tirelessly in the enclaves... as you can imagine, all groups besides blue bloods are not happy with the current situation... so within the first series, where each book evolves around a different couple, we have a bigger story arch all about a rebellion... I highly recommend you guys to start at the beginning, so you can truly appreciate all the awesomeness and get familiar with the characters and all the rules :)After a truly amazing first series, I was ecstatic to hear that Bec decided to write a spin-off series... let's just say that there were a few secondary characters that totally deserved some time in the spotlight :) ok, so now I will mention a thing that might be considered a spoiler about the ending of that first series, but without too many details :) the spin-off is set about three years after the conclusion of the first one... there's new peace and humans, verwulfen and mechs have much more rights now... unfortunately, not all of blue bloods are satisfied with the new rules... there is a group that longs for the old order of things... that is where our Company of Rogues come into play :) created by Duke of Malloryn, it's a group of individuals who are really good at their own thing, that are supposed to work together now to make sure that the new order of things is safe :) there are blue bloods among them, verwulfen, mech, humans... a very diverse and interesting cast of characters ;) let's just say that with each book in it that I was reading, my opinion about who is my favourite shifted... and I am speaking both when it comes to the individual characters as well as the couples :) back in that first book, we see them unsure of each other... not really working together as best as they can... but that slowly changes... and I can honestly say that all the group scenes, are definitely my favourite to read :) the way they tease each other and joke around... with the nicknames and everything... ;) it gives them an opportunity to lighten the mood that is usually much darker... they deal with some pretty serious issues after all... in case you haven't read the previous books, I will share with you this right now: this is one of my all time favourite series... with a phenomenal writing style, complex characters and a plot that will keep you guessing... and yet still surprise you because you will not see certain things coming... like at all... :) each book is once again centered around a different couple, but the bigger story arch connects them all... and because this group of characters work closely with one another, they appear in all of the books :) full of action, sarcastic banter and sinful seduction, I devoured each installment and fell more in more in love with all of them... so definitely read them all before diving into this fantastic last story :) ok, now that we have all of the informations out of the way, let me jump into all my spoilery thoughts about this conclusion... ;)Let me make myself clear, I will NOT spoil you things that are happening in this last book, which is the subject of this review, but I will definitely mention some pretty big surprises that happened within the previous stories in this series... so you've been warned, if you are not caught up on the first four novels, avert your eyes and come back once you do read them... unless you are ok with being spoiled... but don't do this to yourself, this series is fantastic and you should enjoy it without the previous knowledge of what's gonna happen... so you can gasp in surprise so hard you might hyperventilate... I know that it was my own reaction... ;) #TrueStory ;) ok, LAST WARNING people, spoilers from the previous four books in this series will appear right now :) this story picks up a few months after certain members of Company of Rogues rescued Malloryn from Russia... he's still not back to being himself, but it's understandable after all the torture that he was under... he and the rest of COR knows that the big threat is back in London and everything is building up to one big event that will change the city... instead of focusing solely on that, Malloryn's attention is diverted by his wife... Adele... :) because now he suspects that she might be working for the enemy... and what better way to uncover secrets of ones wife, than to seduce the truth out of her... and thus the war of seduction begins, because Adele wants some answers of her own... :) to say that I loved this book is an understatement... there are no words good enough to truly express all of my feelings, but I will try to find the best of them either way... :) Bec McMaster is my absolute favourite author of all time... with each new book of hers that I read, I am just solidifying my opinion :) this one was no exception... once again, she gave us a perfect conclusion to a series... on the one hand we finally got the story about Malloryn and Adele... Malloryn, who was forced to marry her after a scandalous encounter... but not what you think it was ;) and Adele... so easily underestimated by people around her... Malloryn was a favourite of mine for a long time... a bit distant, level headed and logical, he ruled the Rogues with a steady hand... to finally be able to get to know more about him, see his different sides... oh what a treat it was... and don't even get me started on Adele... sorely underestimated by all around her, in this installment she can finally shine... she's much smarter than everyone gives her credit for... very clever and patient when she needs to be... she is the perfect match for Malloryn... their banter throughout this whole book was like icing on the cake... delicious and always left me wanting more ;) to see those sparks between them... how Malloryn slowly but surely loses his control... oh, it was definitely worth the wait :) their romance is complicated, because both of them have walls up... and for very good reasons... so when they slowly let each other more into their lives and hearts... be still my heart... *sighs and swoons and melts on the floor* :) besides that whole amazingness, we have the bigger story arch coming to an end... by this time I should just be used to the fact that me trying to guess what's gonna happen is completely futile, because each time I will be surprised... and yet I try and try... ;) let's just say that Bec once again prepared quite a few surprising twists and turns on the way to the big finale... I could not put this story down... I was reading chapter after chapter... and then just one more... ;) because I had to know how everything will end :) and even though I feel very satisfied with this conclusion I certainly hope so that at some point in the future Bec will go back to this world... it's so rich and full of potential, that I can easily see her come up with more fantastic books set in it... :) this final installment had everything that you need from the big ending... fast paced and full of action, but it was all balanced out with intimate and emotional moments... not to mention quite a few hilarious scenes that were a very welcomed break from all the nervous page turning in anticipation what's gonna happen next ;) I cannot recommend you this book, this series... and this author in general, highly enough... :) if you haven't yet picked it up, do it immediately... and once you binge read all of the books, because they are impossible to put down, you can thank me later ;) don't worry, I won't gloat... :) that much... ;) maybe just a little :) but then we can just fangirl together about this amazing world and all the characters in it that we love :)
I am devastated that it’s over. I have loved both series completely, loved the world of blue bloods and flesh rights. Bec creates this amazing world that sucks a reader in and then keeps them ensnared with lovable characters and nefarious foes. While I can’t stop wondering why Auvry never tells Adele that Charlie and Lena are siblings, I won’t ever complain about how this last story played out.
