Full disclosure, I haven't finished the book yet. I have read the Sybex CCNA books, Cisco CCNP related books and other books from Cisco Press on other topics, Security, VOIP etc. For an introduction to Cisco, the Sybex CCNA Study Guide by Todd Lammle I think is great, but I really needed something that would dig in and explain routing protocols in depth. Most of Cisco Press puts me to sleep after a few pages, but on the shelf or desk of just about every network engineer I work with is a copy of Routing TCP/IP, Volume 1 (1st Edition). That title seemed to be the defacto standard for all network engineers, and even some engineers that weren't network engineers, so I decided to pick up a copy only to be surprised that it had been updated with a second edition. I figured I'd start at the beginning, when a situation at work dictated that I jump into some specific routing protocols. I found that this book was what I was hoping it'd be. The authors explain things in such a way that the light bulb went off on the inner workings of the protocol. I found I was getting the in-depth knowledge I needed, not just a gloss over and how to configure the protocol at a basic level. The authors somehow manage to provide a wealth of information, without it just looking like they dumped the Cisco Whitepages on a page. It's definitely a technical book, but the information is provided in such a manner that you feel engaged and want to keep reading more. I'm currently going over OSPF, and there are approximately 80+ pages just going over the details of OSPF before the authors even get into how to configure OSPF. And that's just OSPFv2. There is a separate chapter for OSPfv3. It's a hefty book at approximately 800 pages, but the authors are really presenting a lot of material in a human readable format. Translation, you don't have to be a Uber Network Engineer to understand this book. To that I attribute the skill of the authors in relaying the information. I intend the read the full book, but for now I specifically need to concentrate on OSPF and BGP. (BGP is going to be covered in the soon to be released Routing TCP/IP, Volume 2 (2nd Edition) by the same authors and I'll be picking up as soon as it's out. If you are beyond CCNA level or want to move beyond CCNA level, get this book. It's a great for learning and will be a great reference or study guide for any of the routing exams. You won't regret this book.

This book is great for CCNA prep. It is NOT for easy glossing over of concepts. You really need to be interacting with equipment (or a good simulator) to appreciate the information here. There is a lot that is uncovered and as you learn more, you'll find yourself going back to those same sections and learning more that you didn't appreciate the first (or second) time around.The book is big, but not wasteful. I hate seeing other books that brag about some number of pages (usually 1000 is the magic mark) only to find half of it is huge table of contents, summary after summary, or ridiculously large indexes. Not that kind of wasted space here.My only caveat is the rather large section on IS-IS. This could be seen as a waste for those not using it. I wouldn't be surprised if this section is much smaller in future editions.If you're going for in-depth knowledge for CCNA (not just enough to pass the exam, but understanding concepts), this book is a keeper.

Good resource for preparing and studying, I don't understand why the author didn't include EIGRPv6, maybe he forgot it :)Some information about IPv6 is redundant with the Volume 2, in my opinion the Volume 1 should include all about IPv6 and Volume 2 shouldn't, or maybe Volume 2 should only include IPv6 transition mechanisms.

This book, and its subsequent volume, are classics in the Cisco networking world. An indispensable volume, whether you're an ambitious, freshly baked CCNA, or a veteran preparing for CCIE.However, it's not a light read; Doyle gets into the nitty-gritty of all IGRPs, Path Control, Redistribution etc. but I think with a little work, it's absolutely doable to understand everything in this book. Keep studying!

Jeff Doyle's Routing TCP/IP Volumes I and II are simply the de facto standard for routing in the Cisco realm. There are no other texts that I can recommend to a higher degree to fully understand routing within networking. This is not only suggested reading, this is a staple requirement for any serious Network Engineer. Anyone considering their CCIE R/S should not proceed further in their studies before reading and studying in depth these two volumes.

Very fun read and solid science, just 2 notes: His estimates on the Drake equation tell us Mars 100% has had life. Also I understand stars twinkle from our atmosphere, rather than interstellar medium. But the Drake equation estimate was enlightening, giving 7 alien civilizations in our galaxy waiting for a call, though an estimate of none in our galaxy is more reasonable to me.

Covers the most interesting bits of science with a sense of humor. Everything from atom smashers to how to bake a cake like a real scientist, to watching out for asteroids. Ben Miller really likes science and it comes through in his writing. (Amazing how fun science is when you don't have to study for a test on Monday.)

Fairly engaging so far, but chatty in a sort of 'assuming reader-anxiety'-way. Stops just shy of arrogance, so still readable, but the author spends more time telling the reader that things are mind-blowing, when he could maybe just blow our minds by really getting into what he's been talking around. Maybe he'll get there. If he does, I'll come back and say so. I promise.

This is a brilliantly written science book for both scientists and non-scientists alike. Ben Miller does an excellent look at major science areas and topics relevant to today's society and science community alike. I highly recommend this book to everyone, the only thing I would recommend even more is the Audio book, with Ben's intended tone and unique flavor of comedy added it makes for a wonderful listen.

I thoroughly liked this book. Even though I have read many science books, this has been one of the most fun as well as nicely informative about a number if topics close to my heart including climate change and evolution.

This author is the best for science fun! He was wonderful to watch as the actor/comedian and to learn about his physics studies was a real bonus! I haven't finished this yet, but look forward to reading every day!

A great concept book to help explain some of the more advance topics of physics. It can be a little hard to follow if you only read a few sections at a time, it is best to read the whole chapter so all the info is fresh in your mind. Ben Miller does a great job making it fun and keeps your interests.

There are a few authors who can make even complicated subjects easy and obscure subjects fun, and Ben Miller is one of them. I understand he's working on a book about space science and exploration now. I want it.

I don't give many 5s but this one is a ten....the doctor writes from experience with an amazing combination of practical insight tempered with an equal amount of compassion for families and patients during the worst of times....he also knows how the medical system works and how it could be improved...the kind of doctor I wish we had attending the death of my wife in 1985 from aplastic anemia following breast cancer....I can only hope for this kind of doctor when my time comes...it should be required reading for everyone who accepts their mortality...the others will just have to wing it...I will be reading it over and over...the book also is a perfect example how kindle should work....the table of contents is live and easily linked to the chapters and the references and bibliography are truly professional...there is nothing to complain about in this book, except that it places a great deal of responsibility on patients to manage their own care when doctors are paid to sell the most that is possible if it is paid by insurance...something that most are not competent to do...I wish the doctor a long and happy retirement because he surely has earned it...it is too bad our society still cannot handle such an emotional topic...

This is a collection of essays by George Knight on the subject of church authority - whether a Reformation Protestant model or a hierarchical Roman Catholic model - and ordination. Apparently Dr Knight, a pre-eminent Seventh-day Adventist historian did not choose to enter the battle regarding women's ordination but was sort of dragged into it by being asked to speak on subjects related to the issue. But he addresses not only women's ordination but the whole topic of "ordination." Is our current practice biblical or not?Despite the heavy-sounding subject, this book is a refreshing read because Knight's sense of irony shows through, and he can't resist a bit of humor now and then. Most chapters are transcripts of sermons or other presentations he has given in the past, and these are rounded out with some brand-new material for this book. Even though I have read most of the material before, having all of the essays in one volume with some added material is worth the cost of the book to us.And, yes, the subjects of church authority and ordination are closely related. One model sees ordination somwhat like an initiation ceremony into the clergy class of Christianity, which presupposes a hierarchical structure of authority where the clergy has authority over the laity. But is this what the Bible teaches? Or is the biblical model one of commissioning individuals for specific tasks, with all members of the body of Christ being equal, as children of the same family?

This book reminds us again that those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. The founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church resisted formal organization for many years for some very sound reasons. Of course in the end they did it for other sound reasons but we are now living with what the pioneers feared both in enforcement of a creed and temptation to abuse power by people who forget that the work of holding any church together is a Divine function not a human job description. George has done a masterful job of telling the story and speaking truth to power. Thank God for his courage.

George Knight is the leading historian in the Seventh-day Adventist church. He brings his extensive knowledge of the denomination's history to shed light on poorly advised decisions that certain leaders are making now. History has a way of repeating itself, and just like 120 years ago, the temptation of well-intended leaders to think that they know better than anyone else and that one side must fit all for the world church is very strong and natural. It would be wonderful if those today who try to exert "kingly power" would read this book with an open mind and see themselves in the history of some of their predecessors. It is a shame that a few feel threatened enough by this book to ban all of the author's excellent books. If the shoe fits, wear it. Reality won't be changed by sticking your head in the sand. This organization was founded by questioning, dialoging, discussing. Those who feel threatened by such reveal that they are not upholding the spirit of the founders

This book explains the evolution of thinking of the sabbatarian Millerites that allowed them to transform scattered groups of believers into the Seventh-day Adventist denomination. Based on their experiences of persecution in their old denominations, they created a new denomination that was not based on hierarchical authority. However, one hundred and sixty years later, the Adventist church seems to have forgotten its roots, as some church leaders in high positions try to manipulate and maneuver data and events to concentrate power in the upper levels of the administration hierarchy.His book is a compilation of papers and sermons, so it has some repetition of material. Aside from this inconvenience, there's a lot of useful information and solid argumentation. You will profit from reading this book.

I have been reading reviews in this forum about this book. A few reviewers compare this book with two other popular quantum chemistry textbooks, namely, McQuarrie’s “Quantum Chemistry” and Levine’s “Quantum Chemistry. I do not think it is an apple-to-apple comparison. First McQuarrie’s book is only an entry-level book. All the mathematical derivations are clearly laid out. There are hardly any doubts that McQuarrie's exposition of the subject is much better. For students that are mathematically less inclined and want to learn quantum chemistry, McQuarrie’s book is the best among the three. However, only topics that are considered as traditional training for a chemist are covered in McQuarrie's book. After all the preliminaries such as particle in a box, operators, simple harmonic oscillator, angular momenta and perturbation theory, the book focuses on electronic theories of atoms and molecules. Both McQuarrie's and Atkins' books use the method of creation and annihilation operators to solve the Schrodinger Equation for a simple harmonic oscillation. Levine's book still uses the traditional power series method. Mathematically, the operator method is definitely much more elegant. Levine’s book is very similar to McQuarrie’s book; mathematically it is on a much higher level. Both books hardly touch on group theory.Mathematically, Atkins’ book is more compact and advanced than McQuarrie’s book. Unlike McQuarrie’s book, the mathematical derivations are not laid out in a step-by-step fashion. In principle, a person who has well working knowledge of calculus should have no problems with the mathematics. All other necessary mathematics are presented at the end of each chapter. To better understand this book, it is important to follow the mathematics with a pencil and a piece of paper. Mathematical techniques such as gradient, Laplacian, curl and divergence of a vector field, matrices, complex numbers, Dirac delta function, ordinary and partial differential equations are frequently used.Atkins’ book covers a wide range of topics in quantum mechanics. These include group theory, optical activity, electric properties of molecules, magnetic properties of molecules and scattering theory. These topics are generally not covered in a few quantum chemistry texts. Although it has a chapter on computational chemistry, its coverage is less extensive than that of Levine’s. Levine's book devotes 4 chapters on molecular modeling (one chapter is on electron correlation). The chapter on group theory is fairly extensive and it includes proofs of the Great and Little Orthogonality Theorems, the constructions of character tables, projection operators and rotational groups. This chapter provides all the most common techniques that are used in chemistry. The last two chapters are probably the most sophisticated ones. It introduces concepts such as vector potential, gauge transformation and invariance, central potential. scattering amplitude and scattering phase shift. Of all the quantum chemistry and NMR books that I have read, this is the only book I come across that shows the full derivation of the Lamb formula, the diamagnetic contribution to shielding in NMR spectroscopy. Although integral equation and Green’s function are used in the last chapter on scattering theory, a person with a good background of calculus should not have any difficulties in understanding mathematics in the Born approximation.If you are interested in the mathematics of quantum physics, this is a book for you. Since it is a book on molecular quantum mechanics, it does not cover topics such as spin, identical particles, density matrices, quantum computing (e.g. quantum encryption) and foundations of quantum mechanics (e.g. hidden variables and Bell Inequality). All these topics can be found in David Miller’s book, “Introduction to Quantum Mechanics to Scientists and Engineers”. Mathematically, Miller’s book is on the same level, may be slightly lower, as that of Atkins’ book. These two books do not presume knowledge of advanced classical mechanics such as Hamiltonian and Lagrangians. Miller's book makes a fine compliment to Atkins' book.If you have mastered McQuarrie’s and Levine’s books, I think you should have a copy this book. The mathematics and quantum mechanics in Atkins’ book are really interesting. It is worth spending the time to understand the mathematics.

I have always thought that Atkins' textbooks were horrible. His worst book was Physical Chemistry, only the 2nd edition was good, then it deteriorated considerably (now I think it's up to the 8th edition! very hard to read that book). This one, Molecular Quantum Mechanics, has an excellent selection of topics, and is mostly a book that will teach you about spectroscopy techniques for the study of molecules (NMR, ESR, vibrational spectroscopy, rotational spectroscopy, etc). It does a fairly good job at teaching things with minimal assumed background. So anyone with basic calculus and some intro to QM should be able to read this book. Atkins derives much of the QM tools needed for the rest of the book (e.g. time-dependent perturbation theory). His presentation of the more "mathematical" topics is generally very lucid. With the exception of the section on group theory, which I've always thought was incomprehensible. You will find a MUCH better (and friendly) learning tool in D.C. Harris' (dover) book. Group theory is taught without any nonsense. I also like Bernath's textbook for group theory (that's about the only thing that's good in Bernath). Anyhow, Atkins IS a good buy. You will learn a lot from it, and it can serve as an excellent supplement to any course on quantum mechanics. He is very pedagogical, and the book includes tons of relevant worked examples. Many of them are non-trivial too, so it makes you feel good, that you've learned new stuff and improved your skills. I would say this is a good book, from an author who usually writes mediocre textbooks.

Very good book with good explanations of different topics. If only I had learned quantum mechanics from this textbook, I would be better off.

I used this text after struggling for the first few weeks in my quantum chemistry course at Berkeley. Recommended by my professor, this text made sense of things that I believed impossible. And, it includes a lot of graphs to boot! I found this book coupled with Griffith's Quantum Mechanics to have been the best possible undergrad combo in my junior year as a chemistry undergrad. In fact, I sold my required text and passed the class with flying colors using just the Atkins book and the Griffith text. Where Atkins is too wordy, Griffith's concise explanations help greatly. And, vice versa, when you need more info, turn to Atkins. Bon chance!

Being four chapters into this textbook now, and with a decent background in mathematics, I feel very strongly that this book has set a bar for explanation of difficult phenomena. At no point does the ideas presented seem unreachable, and the build from topic to topic is masterful. Sincerely, I am glad to be using this text for this subject.

Buy McQuarrie and Simon's "Physical Chemistry" or Griffith's "Introduction to Quantum Mechanics" instead of this book. The book is too concise, and it skips a considerable amount of math. The math is awkwardly addressed in his Mathematical Background and Further Information chapters. Also, the book is, overall, harder to understand. It may be the way the way the author words the sentences or the notation he uses for equations. I have spent hours trying to decipher what the author was trying to say in several chapters. I felt cheated on the time that I had to spent on this book to understand the concepts it illustrated.

This book is the best quantum chemistry book. All issues are clear and didatic. I recommend, mainly because the frist chapters explains the postulates like no other book.

This book is great! Especially for someone who is the beginner of the QM. It is easy to understand and if you follow the book, you will learn a lot.

If all you want is a very, very brief overview of the city, it is OK. Say, you are only going to be in Changhai for 24 or 36 hours.

They haven't steered us wrong yet, and we've purchased about 8 of these for different cities. Ondine and Sweet Melinda's were both great restaurants.

2014 in Amazon's title is misleading. Although printed in 2013, this book was most recently updated in 2011. The maps and neighborhood overviews are cursory at best.

This guide is way overpriced for what you get. And...pay close attention to the size...it looks like a nice 8-1/2 x 11 booklet but it is very, very small...4 x 6, I think... When you get past 40,you cannot read type this small. BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART. Thanks, Amazon...youasked for my opinion...a very disappointing purchase!

The guide is very limited. It only guides you to the most excpensive places.No museums, no places to see, and no normal shopping, no parks, and no historical districts of interest.I was very dissapointed with this particular boston guide.And what's more, the price of it is exuberant.

Loved the Zurich Wallpaper book as it pointed to a bunch of quirky and interesting sites around town. Thought I'd get the one for my home city to discover some hidden gems. Not so much. Really nothing in here of note or worth discovering. Disappointing.

This book holds a special place in my heart. It accompanied me in my journey as I came out as an openly queer latino person. Perhaps one of the greatest things it did for me was to validate my transition. It helped me realise that my transition wasn't any less valid or real than a MtF one. It also made me more aware of problematic power dynamics and binaries in every day life ave discourses. I think that is the book's main goal, so I think it was successful.

absolutely great overview of queer theory. I've already recommended it to friends. It's a very accessible overview and a great place to glean ideas and directions for more reading/study/research.

This is awesome, it's finally explained a lot of the things about Queer Theory I didn't understand before. A painless introduction to a complex and growing field full of publications I can't decipher, this may help.

I love this book. I wish this book was around three years ago when I was first trying to understand queer theory and queer history. MJ Barker takes an intimidating subject and makes it in to an enjoyable experience. The illustrations are excellent and they even acknowledge the restriction of lacking people of color getting their acknowledgement. If you want to learn more, or need a stepping stone in to the queer culture, buy this book. My preference is to read it in print but on a screen I think it would likely be just as nice.

Perhaps the most misleading title and description ever. I thought this was a graphic novel but that was just a marketing gimmick to get you to buy a straightforward History with a drawing in each section. You can get a way better History than this anywhere probably with better images too. What a disappointment

Everyone should read this book. In my opinion, the format of this make it so much more approachable than if it was just walls of text. Flows really well. There's a lot here to ingest but that might just be because I read it all in 2 days haha, if you take your time with it I'm sure it's extremely manageable.

A clear, insightful and engaging account of the history and major themes/influences that make up queer theory. I highly recommend this graphic novel!

Binary vs spectrum is concept I’ve found obvious for a while, so I like hearing that the idea isn’t all that new. Queer is well queer and more a verb than an identity. Queer is inclusive and not about identity. Though identity can be useful to help an individual find tribe or community.This book is filled with lots of interesting seemingly conflicting ideas, yet it very much works for me. I recommend it!
