I'm enjoying the book very much, but the kindle edition does not display illustrations so there are pages completely blank. I'm reading this for a pedagogy class andi have no way of knowing what information I'm missing. Buy the paperback over digital. You don't receive all the content you pay for.***Edit: I cannot complete my assignments because the kindle edition has entire pages blank. I really need my money back.*******edit, please fix the kindle edition!!

I really enjoyed this book and its discussion of self 1, with all of its doubts and fears, and self 2, the uninhibited part of us that we need to allow to take over in difficult situations. Intuition is key, and we can enjoy and create much more fluidly if we allow ourselves to follow those deeper feelings without letting logic destroy the moment. Nevertheless, I felt the book was mostly appropriate for professional musicians, and not so much amateurs or beginners. The terminology was often beyond what I would expect a beginner to understand, and many beginners are often unable to let self 2 take over because they have never brought themselves to a level of self 1 discipline to learn the piece thoroughly enough that they can allow self 2 to emerge. Perhaps this book will help them though.

What is striking and admirable is that Green didn't just write a knockoff cribbed from Gallwey's book. After meeting with Gallwey about the project, they decided Green should live with (and teach) the principles and then write the book. Three years later, Green was ready and this book is the result.As you might guess, the book is about how to think about- and approach playing music and music practice. There is a lot of useful information in this little book, and it's clear that Green--a professional symphonic bass player and university teacher--knows what he's talking about and writes clearly about it.He starts with an overview of Gallwey's approach, namely using the "Self 1" and "Self 2" aspects of our thinking. Green immediately points out that this doesn't necessarily conform to the popular "left-brain/right-brain," and other ideas from psychology (for more on this, read Pinker's good book, A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future). S1 and S2 are simply a conceptual tool to help "describe the ways in which the incredibly complex human being is 'wired and programmed.'" (p. 17). Self 1 is the rational, analytical, judgmental self, while self 2 is more holistic, body-centered and emotive. Green shows how both selves are essential, but each has its place and role. Our culture focuses much more on S1, and Green takes us through ways to bring out the strengths inherent in S2. The first part of the book introduces us to "Inner Game" principles and how he's applied them to music.One of the most valuable parts of the book for me was the advice throughout the book on awareness. Awareness not only as a musician, but especially as a teacher (Chapter 10), and the teacher's role in evoking deep awareness in students by avoiding the "Do this" approach and adopting the "Be aware of..." approach . Other valuable chapters for me were CH11: The Inner Game Listener; CH8: Coping with Obstacles; CH9: Improving the Quality of Musical Experience; and CH7: Letting Go.The weaknesses of the book lie in its classically oriented, Western-art-music-is-best approach, though this is a minor concern as most of the principles in the book can be applied to any type of music. To be fair, this bias is, I think, not a result of any overt agenda on Green's part, and I'd bet his musical tastes are far-ranging and varied, but because of his own immersion in that tradition, his writing is bound to come off with a bit of this flavor. I found value in all but one of the chapters, CH 15: Improvisation, Composition, and Creativity, which gave shallow treatments of each subject. Putting all three of these complex and useful musical tools into one chapter does a disservice to the topics and the thoroughness of the rest of the book. In fact, each topic could easily support an entire chapter (or book!) of its own.Despite these minor flaws, it's a great read for anyone interested in playing music, or anyone with a child interested in music. The book is rarely dry or pedantic and makes frequent use of real-world anecdotes to illustrate points. Using examples like this make the book an enjoyable read and may help the reader to apply these principles and philosophies to his or her own situation. The book has something for everyone: players of any level, parents of players, and teachers at any level. Highly recommended.Have fun, and good luck with your practice!

After 20 years of singing opera and classical recitals, I still worry about forgetting the words, or have that inner voice analyzing every sound that comes out. This book helped me to stop those inner judges and relax and immerse myself in the music. Performing has become much more fun.....what a concept!

As the other reviewers have mentioned, this book will not only help you with your musical performance and how to practice, but also how to deal with other situations in your chosen career (be it music or otherwise) and everyday life. I've read through the book only one time and I'm now planning on reading through it again. I have pages marked and highlighted that pertain particularly to the situation I'm in so I can concentrate on them more. The book states from the outset that there may be certain areas that don't pertain to everyone. That has been the case with me, but it's still interesting to me to read through these areas to see what other musicians might be struggling with or find useful. Who knows. Those areas may become pertinent to me in the future. This book was recommended to me because I struggled with performance anxiety. Since I've read through it, my private teacher has noticed a big difference in my abilities.

If not for the little "twist" at the ending, I would have rated it higher. It held my interest and was decently written. I do like twisty endings but fhe foundation has to be laid for them throughout the book so that once you're slapped upside the head by the surprise, you think back and say, "Ohhh, I didn't pick up on that..." In this book you are supposedly inside Aubrey's head in the chapters pertaining to her. And yet there is no clue about the extent of her involvement in Josh's disappearance. I also didn't care for the very end, with the look at her life in Chicago. Aubrey is not who we thought she was and there was no clue about this. It seems to be a kind of take off on Gone Girl but didn't work as well, at least for me.

There are many unanswered questions in this book. What is the deal with Meaghan? What happens to Tyler? She writes letter upon letter, but then in the end, none of those are mentioned and she was actually a PART of it? And Chase gets the dog? Come on.. Very disappointing

As a native Nashvillian, I was super impressed with this book. The author referred to so many places that only a local would know. The book was very well written and had some fantastic turns. I listened to it while walking and then ordered the hard copy to send to my mother. Great book.

This book was a formulaic repeat of Gone Girl with flatter characters and improbable plot devices. I turned the pages hoping to be disproven, but alas, it was as I imagined. The ending has a twist, but it feels unearned and unbelievable. Not my favorite.

5 star review until the end. I gave this book a four star review because I absolutely loved it until the last chapter. This was compelling and riveting and well written until the very last chapter and epilogue when I found myself confused.My review is not because I wanted a different conclusion but because It was abrupt and felt rushed and unfinished.

As always I couldn't put this book down! I love reading J.T. Ellison. This one really surprised me at the end! I usually can at least guess what the outcome will be but this one really had me in suspense right up to the end. I prefer the Taylor Jackson series but this one was very good too. A part of me was slightly disappointed how it ends but then again it can't be the same predictable ending all the time in books so I liked it!! Looking forward to the next one.

For the most part, I enjoyed the book, but the last few chapters took the book in an entirely different direction. There was no happy ending. The characters shifted to an extreme. Josh goes to jail and Aubrey goes to a hospital for the criminally insane after all is said and done. It seems like to much information was left out between the last chapter and the epilogue. For one second, it looked like Daisy and Chase were in on it from the beginning to set Aubrey and Josh up for the money. How did it come to Chase and Aubrey getting married? The last paragraph ended to abruptly.

I'm a big fan of the Taylor series so I was excited to read this standalone. The book was pretty suspenseful all the way through until the end. I found the end anti-climatic and kind of predictable but I still enjoyed getting there.

I got this to help my niece cope with the death of her mother, but I found it helped me cope with the loss of my sister just as much. It might be written as a children's book, but I've been recommending it to anyone who's lost someone they love. It's especially comforting for people who (like me) aren't religious but need and want something to believe in.

This beautifully written book would be best given to a child by a loved one that will be passing away soon, leaving for a long trip or perhaps stationed overseas. This book has a strong message to look for signs of love everywhere. This was a great buy and I highly recommend!

I'm a child psychologist and I have two boys (ages 5 & 10). Since the time the older son was little, I have been in the habit of putting magic kisses on their knees everyday before we say goodbye. They could then look at their knees during the day and be reminded that my love is always around and in them. Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs accomplishes the same "connective support structure" to little ones, but in lots of different ways and with beautiful imagery and colors. I read Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs to my 5 year old on his first day of kindergarten -- twice actually! He thought I wrote it because the concepts and imagery are all the sort of things we all say to our babies when reassuring them of our love and helping them to feel safe and secure in their little worlds while they explore away from us. This book accomplished two things. It serves as a supportive and therapeutic way for children to interpret and manage their feelings when they're away from us. It also promotes mindfulness practice in little ones, but encouraging them to look at natural phenomenon in the natural world and to understand that all of it connects all of us. It is also written at a level that is perfect for little ones to work on their reading skills. Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs is a book that is good for children, good for families and eventually, good for us all.

The illustrations in this book are simply beautiful. The language used to express such a higher level concept to young children flows well together and it is evident that this book was created for others with lots of love.This book would make the perfect gift for children who suffer from separation anxiety, especially if they are going through a move away from loved ones or are experiencing grief after the loss of a loved one.The book focuses on our connections to nature and the world around us, and uses those natural elements as cornerstones in the dialogue of kisses from the sun and hugs from the moon.

We purchased this book for our eight year old who lives in two separate homes. We often talk about sun and moon kisses and hugs as a way to think of each other and remember our love even when she is at her other house. The illustrations are adorable and the the story is so sweet!

This is a charming picture book that teaches young readers that love is all around us. The author uses nature to provide examples of love reaching out to us. One can see love in the sun, the moon, the stars, grains of sand, the wind, and butterflies to name just a few.The book might be used to assuage the fears of children who suffer from separation anxiety, the trauma of divorce or grief at the loss of a loved one. While it is a beautiful message for any age, I especially recommend it to children in the six to ten age range. Fletcher's illustrations enhance the flow of the message and portray the story beautifully.

From a (former) librarian's point of view, it was always difficult to find books that worked well to explain how, while death separates us it doesn't mean we can't be together in other ways, for smaller children. I found 2 or 3 that I kept on hand that used common images (like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly for instance) to explain death and leaving, but it wasn't easy to find things that explained and comforted without placating or being too cutesy to really help. And, especially with picture books and the under 6 years old crowd, it's a careful balance.This book hits that balance. This very boring book is more for a security professional to have on his or her desk as a reference rather than a study tool for the CISSP exam. There is a LOT of material in it that you don't need to know for the exam. For example, DR is gone over in painstaking detail. That's fine, but the CISSP exam is a mile wide/inch deep, so you will end up wasting a lot of studying time. Also there is a lot of redundancy throughout the book so more wasted studying time.My main beef with the book is that it's unnecessarily wordy and highbrow. Here's an example."Specifically, what the security architect needs to accomplish through the investment of this time is to gain a better understanding of the usage scenarios that each stakeholder brings to the system in question and what the intricacies of those scenarios are in order to perform a risk analysis against them, and as a result, he or she will gain a better understanding of the powerful threats and vulnerabilities to be addressed as part of any defenses that may be planned and implemented".Good gawd, I almost fell asleep while typing that out. That sentence could easily be cut in half.Here's another example."Several common methods of cryptography exist including stream-based and block ciphers. The information security professional must have a basic understanding of both to ensure further understanding of encryption implementations."The second sentence is unnecessary. It just adds weight to the book.There are a ton of sentences like that all throughout the book.One more."Computers are inherently designed for predictability not randomness. Computers are so thoroughly deterministic that they have a hard time generating high-quality randomness. Therefore, special purpose built hardware and software called "random number generators," or RNG's, are needed for cryptography applications. The U.S. federal government provides recommendations on deterministic random number generators through the NIST. An international standard for random number generation suitable for cryptographic systems is sponsored by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 18031. A rigorous statistical analysis of the output is often needed to have confidence in such RNG algorithms. A random number generator based solely on deterministic computation done solely by a computer cannot be regarded as a true random number generator sufficient in lack of predictability for cryptographic applications because its output is inherently predictable."The last sentence is totally unnecessary. That was already stated in the first two sentences. I could give you many, many more examples but you get the picture.The publisher must have wanted to get this book out quickly to capitalize on the new CISSP exam so they opted to skip proofreading.Here's some proof for you."Iris scanning is the most accurate biometric technology.""Retina scan devices are probably the most accurate biometric available today".That's 4 points down the drain if I get a question on the exam about the most accurate biometric.I especially love this one."Some areas to consider are actions such as planning for delivery of office supplies to the alternate site, setting up a package delivery account for the alternate site like UPS or Airborne...."Airborne hasn't been around since 2003 when it got acquired by DHL.Go with the latest Shon Harris book, she does a much better job of explaining the material. Although it doesn't reflect the new 8 domains, it still has everything you need to know to pass the latest CISSP exam, and you won't be bored to death.

Poorly edited & unnecessarily wordy. It feels like the author is attempting to prove he/she has a wonderful vocab to their boss. You are writing to professionals, not robots. We appreciate candor and easily digestible sentences, no matter the complexity. I'm sure the NIST documents read cleaner than this book. The content is in there, it just causes frustration trying to find it all in the tangled thoughts of the authors.I would suggest buying it, but please beware. Do not use it as your primary resource.

Talk about a long winded blowhard, the author of this book felt it necessary to take over 1200 pages to say what others have summarized in less than half that amount.He takes a long time to express a very simple point like this:"Whereas analog communication uses complex wave forms to represent information, digital communication uses two electronic states (On and Off). By convention, 1 is assigned to the on state and 0 to off. Electrical signals that consist of these two states can be transmitted over a cable, converted to light and transmitted over fiber optics, and broadcasted with a wireless device. In all of the above media, the signal would be a series of one of two states: On and Off."Seriously he takes a whole paragraph to say: Digital communication uses Binary 1s and 0s in an on or off state respectively to broadcastinformation over all forms of digital media.The book seems worded to imply that the reader has no basic knowledge of computers whatsoever, which if that were the case this could be a good thing. However why would a person without any knowledge of computers want to get their CISSP? At any rate this book is as boring to read as a phone book from front to back. I only have it because my College class required it and I wasn't about to pay full price. Even as far as my class goes I have no intention of reading the whole thing only skimming for answers. If you need it I highly recommend buying it used as it is mostdefinitely not a keeper, even better if you can borrow it from a friend. (It's my opinion that the Author plumped up the book so he could pump up his price!)

After reading through the entire book, I am very disappointed with what I received for my money. The book appears as though it was put together in a hurry. I am missing 47 pages out of the middle of it (455 - 502), and there is a duplicate of the tail end of Domain 3 at the beginning of Domain 4. There are numerous spelling and grammatical errors, and one must hunt throughout the book to gather all of the information about a specific topic...as the index is extremely limited.I am sending my copy back for a refund. I understand that (ISC)2 had to update the CBK, but they could have taken a little extra time for editing, or could have done a better job of planning ahead for a release that coincided with the April 2015 changes.
