This book is a well-organized and thought-out coverage of educating our children about God's design for sex. It has been very helpful in even forming ideas about how to cover this information with children of different ages and important topics to cover at each developmental stage. It made a lot of really good points that I hadn't thought about and is also good at reiterating the main points so that I didn't have to look back or try to remember what they were talking about.

"The Talk" came much sooner than I imagined it would but having this book helped the discussion progress better than if I had done it alone. The daughter was appropriately mortified and told me to hide the book from her father (which made me wonder if the concept was really understood.)

The book is great.However, the good used condition was not very accurate.This copy has obvious water/liquid damage.

This is an excellent resourse full of practical tips and methods to inform/teach the younger generation about this all important topic. It provides a clear, concise, Godly aspect to the topic! For those who are not of either the Judeo or Christian faith, do not be turned off by the Godly aspect. If you want your children to grow up an enter into marriage with a healthy/positive attitude about sex, this and the God's Design for Sex series are the tools for you. This book is not an easy read. It will require some thought and some time. I'd classify it as a training manual - no pictures, just thought provoking, solid, useful and usable information.This and the companion childrens books will be Christmas gifts for the young families on our Christmas list.

Following the path set by James Clifford, who long ago proposed a much-needed bridge between anthropological, literary and historical approaches to the topic of travel culture, Kaplan analyzes the various metaphoric uses of travel in feminist and poststructuralist criticisms. Displacement, diaspora, borders, exile, migration, nomadism, homelessness, tourism and so on: Kaplan aims to investigate the role played by these symbols and metaphors in contemporary literary and cultural theory in Europe and the United States, linking them to the history of production of colonial discourses. Her main argument is that these metaphors of travel contribute to the blurring of fundamental differences and disputes between national identities, classes, races and genders. In each chapter, a particular binary formation (e.g., exile/tourism) or charged metaphor (e.g., nomad) is examined in order to highlight the possibilities and limitations of these terms as they appear in Euro-American theory. "Without rejecting or dismissing the powerful testimony of personal and individual experiences of displacement", she asks, "how is it possible to avoid ahistorical universalization and the mystification of social relations that Euro-American discourses of displacements often deploy?" (p. 2-3). In other words, it is necessary to investigate which material forces allow a social and collective phenomenon such as the modern experience of mass-movement, voluntary or forced, to be so often represented as an individualized experience. But Kaplan, as she herself acknowledges, is more concerned with the movement of ideas and practices rather than with movements of bodies through specific places. The lack of empirical references, I suspect, many times leads her to be imprisoned by the same rhetorical conventions she proposes to criticize.

I frankly nothing learned from this feminist postmodernist approach of displacements and travels. If you want my opinion as a social anthropologist all this postmodern buhaha combining feminist studies, postcolonialism and post structuralism ( baptised as cultural studies) mark the decline or the impossibility of our western culture to approach the Otherness or the Difference. Culturalists such as Carmen Kaplan who seldom move from their safe arm-chair are harming ethnological studies much more than Frazer did a century ago from his Victorian arm-chair in Oxford. If Frazer had as an excuse his classisist background I should like to ask Ms Kaplan what her background could be. Something of all and nothing at all. I bet that she does not even conceive the etymology of her name. Academia and the layman are not greatly beneficiated by this sort of pseudo social science books. I admit loosing four hours of my life trying to collect a valuable information from this book but I did not succeed. In conclusion : PURE TRUSH. Why on earth uneducated western people who never dared to visit remoted populations practicing original popular culture, write this sort of books addressed to a western public if they cannot communicate even for un hour with original patterns of culture. The symptom of this alienation is not hazardous : The most one is baptised in our western culture the less one can see "beyond the lines" of the different cultures. Tomorrow I will burn this trash in my fireplace !

.I will be completely honest, when I first ordered this, I wasn't exactly sure what type of New Testament it was going to be because there is no option to "look inside" this before you buy it. I thought it would be just like any other ordinary everyday run of the mill New Testament. Man was I ever wrong !....This bible more than blows away any expectations of it I had. This bible is the bible of all bibles as far as I am concerned. I love this one ! there are many features which really make this a treasure to own and to read. let me explain.There are black and white icons all throughout the text which enhances the text and makes it a joy to read. Starting from page 559-568 are detailed appendices which cover the background of this bible,the format of this version as well as thorough and detailed comprehensive explanations of English and Greek grammar,for people,like me, who do not know any Greek and who do not speak it or write it, you will find more information in this section about Greek grammar than you ever wanted to know and were probably afraid to ask. From page 569-596 is a section covering texts,bibliography and other references. from page 597 is a detailed list of the icons used throughout the text and page 607 to the rest of the book is a chronological index of the Gospel parallels.There are amazing and detailed, comprehensive, and thorough endnotes which can be found at the end of each of the Gospels.The reason they are placed at the end of each of the gospels is because there is no room on the bottom of each page to put this extensive amount of endnotes. That would be impossible!..if the authors did that, do you know what size this New Testament would have to be???..so therefore they are placed at the end of each gospel. It's more logical that way. It makes more sense. The endnotes explain Greek grammatical renderings of verbs and verb tenses and other grammar points that occur here and there throughout the text. The endnotes also quote and contain passages written by the various different early church fathers. This shows how they thought and what they taught, how they believed and how they perceived the Gospels.All of these features combined make this the absolute best bible on the market. You won't be disappointed. It's worth every penny. Another reader above stated it's hard to read because it's a literal translation, well, while that may be that persons' opinion I would have to disagree. imo this New Testament is very easy to read. It contains all of the classical language we have all come to know so well ( ex,... verily I say to you,...and it came to pass,...thee,....thou,...thy,... ) other than those most of the English is modern day English in the language of the common man,for the common layman in laymens terms, it's easier to read than the KJV that's for sure. It has more modern English and the vocabulary is more modern.Other reveiwers claim it is a difficult version to read,or it is stilted or whatever other reason they claim. I assure you,this is not the case.The average person with an average reading ability should find no difficulty at all reading this version. If you can read the KJV then you can read this with no problems.This version does pay attention to proper and literal Greek verbs and tenses,more than any other protestant bible you may own or read. the authors cut no corners when it comes to Greek grammar and they have done an amazing job. Their extensive and complete knowledge of the proper rendering of Greek grammar shows throughout the text and I am sure any reader will greatly appreciate it. I wish every New Testament was translated with the same due diligence to the proper rendering of Greek grammar, but they aren't and that's what makes this such a treasure to have.Every Christian,regardless of your denomination, Protestant/Evangelical as well as Orthodox Christians they should all have this New Testament on their bookshelves. I have purchased vol.1 of this 2 volume set so far, but I am already ordering vol.2 of the Acts of the Apostles,21 Epistles and the book of Revelation.A terriffic 2 volume set !

Much better translation that the bogus Orthodox Study Bible by Nelson (which is just a KJV in disguise), the KJV based its translation on later texts, often written centuries apart, which ignored the nuances of ancient Greek and Latin and how words, their ending and gender can alter the meaning and of course the translation.

The Orthodox New Testament (in two volumes) is an almost perfect Bible one could have. The translation is excellent; extremely faithful with beautiful archaic English. There are also excellent verse by verse Patristics endnotes. Excellent font, large enough to make reading enjoyable and comfortable. The books are also made with good quality materials -- good built. The best New Testament Bible I have ever had.

For anyone who wants to delve into the Church teachings and a more accurate translation of the Gospels into English then this is a necessary resource.

I have not read this translation, but I have heard Archbishop Gregory quote from it in sermons, and it sounds odd. The reason I focused on Mother Mariam's translation of 1 Corinthians 6:9, is because it is one of the few examples of her translation quoted on the Internet. Since I have seriously studied the New Testament since age 15, I knew immediately when I saw her addition of the phrase "nor masturbators" that it was wrong. And since I am a Christian, I am morally obligated to tell others about it. Her translation reads as follows:"Or do ye not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Cease being led astray: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor masturbators, nor homosexuals"......[will inherit the Kingdom of God].The words "nor masturbators" are not in the Greek text. Mother Mariam added two words to 1 Corinthians 6.I checked with 29 New Testament translations, and none of them have the words "nor masturbators" in 1 Corinthians 6.If it was Mother Mariam's OPINION that the words "nor masturbators" should be added to the text, I cannot believe her audacity. The Holy Spirit inspired St. Paul, and the Holy Spirit did not give the phrase "nor masturbators" to St. Paul. His postdoctoral work includes work on Greek grammar at Tyndale House in Cambridge, textual criticism studies at the Institut für neutestamentliche Textforschung in Münster, and the Universität Tübingen, Germany.When I asked him if Mother Mariam's addition of the word "masturbators" to 1 Corinthians 6 is justified, he replied:"you’ve had Greek, right? Check out BDAG, TDNT, etc. to see if that’s in there. I don’t think it is, but in 1 Thess 4, I think a case could be made for it in the Greek."I checked the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (TDNT), for 2 Corinthians 6, and the word "masturbators" is not located in it.Recently, a leading Orthodox theologian and author chimed in. Translating the N.T. is not like translating the lives of the saints. After watching the Great British Bake Off and seeing the amazing goodies created, I'm glad to have this book to try out some real English recipes. As a baker the recipes sound amazing and the pictures will make you drool. Medieval honey cake with earl gray tea frosting! I can't wait to try this one out. Oh and I'm a huge tea drinker too, so this book is perfect. Thanks Sandra for giving us American's access to your fine recipes from across the ocean. I love the stories and background included with each recipe too.

I grew up in Japan and love Japanese food, but also loved the sandwiches and pastries there that I now realize were borrowed from the English Teatime tradition and the French respectively. It was so nostalgic for us to read, make and eat the finger sandwiches and experiment with the easy cream puffs, we called them "shoe cream," back then, I guess from the French word, "Choux" as Sandra describes. This book is such a treat with easy to follow recipes and beautiful pictures of the goodies you'll be eating soon.

Beautifully illustrated, accompanied by great little stories about the origin of the treat, Sandra Hawkins has made my childhood fantasies accessible. Raised on a diet of Enid Blytons and books by other English authors in the humid and hot Bombay, these treats always evoked a sense of wonder and delight. Now I can make them at home anytime, anywhere!! Thank you Sandra.

I can't wait to try these one-dish treats! Oh my, the illustrations have made me hungry just looking through the pictures and recipes. She promises start to finish 30 minutes - starting with finding the ingredients! How awesome is that! A very special jewel, complete with English vocabulary and bits of information, make this a great tool for those of us who like treats but don't like to take the time or make the mess to prepare those treats!

An absolutely delightful recipe book. I had intended to only look at one or two recipes but began reading the prose and finished the book. The prose is delightful, especially her tidbits of history. The recipes sound like I might taste too many of my finished products as soon as they are cool enough to eat! Oh, my hips and Christmas is barely over.

Reading this lovely book was like sitting down with wonderful Sandra over tea and finding a new best friend. I simply can't wait to try all these recipes, and honestly I'm wondering why Sandra isn't on the Food Network, because I would certainly watch her! "Thirty minutes from measure to munch" is my new favorite phrase.

This is a large book of coffee table size, but is more than just for decorative or display purposes. It is highly informative and well organised. It is a book on history but organised according to specific topics rather than the usual history book that is organised on the basis of countries, or people. It begins with a timeline of the dinosaur age, explaining the various periods – Triassic, Jurassic, and cretaceous. It moves on to subjects such as ‘mathematics’ and explains the development in human understanding of maths, with examples such as the creation of zero in 630 CE and its significance to the world of mathematics. Other subjects include religion, the rise of the samurai, the story of painting, the British Empire, photography, physics, the Pacific War, and the race to the moon. There is, in short, something for everyone.One might hope that more subjects could have been added, and some extra details might have been given of the subjects covered.
