Definitely a great read for anybody getting ready to get married, anyone teaching teenagers or kids, or just in general for good knowledge. I feel like this really helped me be more ready for my married life than I would have otherwise been. I'm glad to have it as a resource now to help us figure out some of the bumps in our sex lives.My complaint is about the same as the others here, it teaches really well but is aimed almost exclusively at the wife. I feel like there is a lot in this book that applies to men and women equally but the men, like my husband, are less likely to be willing to read it because it is geared so heavily towards a woman reader. I was aware of this book years before I was ready to read it. It was making the rooms with my aunts and one of them talked about it with me a little bit, saying that it had made a huge difference for her and her husband even years into their marriage.
I can't say enough good things about this book. By the time I was halfway through I had already learned so much that I didn't have a clue about. It is tastefully written, thorough, and specific. If you purchase this book, and I heartily recommend that you do, don't bother to buy The Act of Marriage, which this book quotes considerably. It doesn't add anything new, and is in some ways inaccurate. Laura has somehow managed to gather all the essentials I was looking for in one book, clarifying how men and women approach marriage differently, what their different needs are, and how they can work toward becoming one. I doubt you'll find a better book on sexual intimacy, especially for those who have been taught to think of sex as dirty. This positive, hopeful book reaffirms the full glory and pleasure that sexual relations were always meant to be, and yes, this is for men *and* women!
This is a very well organized piece of non-fiction. I am one who likes to look to multiple sources for my research. Reading this feels like it's all in one place. There are treasures quoted from multiple sources in this book, and of course the sources listed in case you want to do further reading. The author also includes very well educated theories and suggestions for personal introspection, evaluation and improvement. It is a faith based book, but the principles taught correlate to individuals without a system of religious belief too. My husband and I have both read it, and highly recommend it for men and women as a necessary relationship resource. It's given enlightenment to problems we couldn't define within our relationship., and offered hope.
Seldom is a book worthy of 5 stars. Authors are good and sometimes great but 5 stars is seldom warranted. This book on the other hand is a work of magic. Perhaps in its simplification of critical life truths. I only wish I had this available to me 30 years ago. I will give this as wedding gifts to every new couple I know. Worth it's weight in gold if implemented. She states that the implications of a couples love life impacts every other aspect of life. So true. So profound. So needed.

If you let it, you will clear out all the barriers to spiritual, emotional, and physical intimacy to allow you and your spouse to begin being one in your marriage as husband and wife. This book outlines the way that true intimacy need not be separated into 3 areas that are carefully divided and never intermingle: spiritual, emotional, and physical. Instead all of those areas should deeply involve all the other areas: spiritual intimacy should at it's deepest level involve the expression of emotional and physical intimacy. Emotional intimacy should at it's deepest level involve the expression of spiritual and physical intimacy. And physical intimacy should at it's deepest level involve the expression of emotional and spiritual intimacy.This book has brought so much light into my marital relationship as my wife and I read it at the same time and discuss it. We have never been closer now! After 19 years of marriage, I feel like we are just married again exploring each other in all areas: spiritual, emotional, and physical - in a deeper and more fulfilling way and we are just getting started!
