Rather than a standard atlas - where the end of the page helpfully says "continued on map xx", this is organized alphabetically by town - and in many cases the map doesn't even hint at where you should look as your road runs off the page. Strangely, although owned by the same parent company - American Maps uses this poorly organized way, while Hagstrom Maps are easy to follow and use.

I will be vacationing in Connecticut in the near future and needed a detail map of the State. this will be of greatvalue.

Received today, Map Book was advertised as Third Edition. Was in fact, FIRST EDITION. Also, advertised as used in GOOD condition, received in POOR condition with writing within pages AND torn covers.

This is being used for a college level class that requires us to cite where we find information. The fact that there are no page numbers and only locations makes this book almost entirely worthless to me. The assignments are to answer questions that are on specific pages, it is difficult to find the right questions due to this. For a book being read for pleasure this may work fine but for a textbook we need page numbers.

Why the book was listed as "acceptable" is beyond me. The pages of the book are in almost-new condition. Yes, there is some wear and tear to the outside but it is within the normal bounds of use. The the binding is not affected. All pages are secure. There are no stray marks. The book was well packaged. If this seller offers an item in the future that I need, I certainly won't think twice about purchasing.

This product was a better price than my school's bookstore, and shipped quickly. Product is exactly as described. I wish textbooks were less costly, but this was the best deal I found.

I have two complaints.1) I purchased this book 'With Reader' explicitly which was affirmed in the label. It is, however, not 'With Reader' and I didn't have time to return it seeing as though I started classes the same week. This mistake is understandable considering it may be insignificant to some but I am still disappointed.2) Although this book was used, there was aslo no indication in the description that a half inch was CUT off both the front and back covers of the book.

I had to get this book for my English 1301 class, at my school library it was 130 dollars, and I was able to get it on here for 13.34. Definitely when you're looking at prices look at the different versions available, paperback, hardcover, etc. It came in good condition. No marks or damage, only a few pages folded.

I had to buy this book for one of my classes at school and it turned out to be one of my go to books for all of my classes. If you are trying to get a good handle on writing papers or how even to make a good impression in a resume this book is great. It may seem a little pricey, but it is a book that you can use for the rest of your life so it's worth it.

My daughter used it for school. Its in really good condition

So that's what I attempt to do in Strange Glow. The book is the story of man's encounters with radiation, and how mankind has been transformed by the experience. The story is told with an emphasis on the human aspects, and it is told from a health-centric perspective. The goal is to integrate the technological aspects of radiation within the human experience and, thereby, remove some of the mystery and misunderstanding that surrounds radiation. Nevertheless, this is not a book about lessening your fear of radiation. Fear is a very subjective emotion, driven by many factors. The only thing that this book can achieve is to present the facts about radiation as objectively and evenhandedly as possible, leaving its readers to decide for themselves which aspects of radiation they should fear.    Another purpose of this book is to dispel the myth that the subject of radiation risks is so complicated that it is beyond the capability of ordinary people to grasp, leaving as their only recourse reliance on radiation "experts." This is simply not true. Intelligent people, even those lacking any technical background, should be able to understand the fundamental principles that drive radiation risk and make their own decisions about how large a threat radiation poses to them individually and to society at large. This book seeks to convince people that they can be masters of their own radiation fate, and to empower them to make their own well-informed decisions about their personal radiation exposures.    Lastly, this book is an experiment in risk communication. The open question is whether radiation risks can be characterized accurately and effectively without reliance on a lot of mathematics, tables, and graphs. Strange Glow is a good read for the average person. If you are PhD radiochemist you might be frustrated by the lack of equations, functions, and charts. If you are decent at understanding the basics (or at least willing to reread the paragraphs that are a bit technical), you will begin to understand radiation a bit more.What Jorgensen does is unravel the mysteries around radiation for eh average person. I took the required one year of chemistry and physics in high school and college, so do not live in his world. But his approach of relating the advances made, especially in last century or so are more a historical or detective novel – personalities, rivalries, financial gains, etc. Each seems to build off the other in a way that I appreciated understanding (maybe my high school chemistry teacher was right after all … gentlemen, you have to keep up, as tomorrow’s lessons will build off today!).Strange Glow allowed me access to the technical discussions we read about in the news. I wish more scientists would speak to me as a lay person, in analogies or a language that I can understand. That is one of the strengths of Jorgenson’s work. Without telling me what to think, he presents facts about nuclear power, radiation we get in everyday life (who knew flying across th country actually provided a dose of radiation) …. But also puts things in perspective for me to decide on my own.For the average person who wants to get a bit smarter about a topic, this is good read and good information.

This book explains the history of mankind's interaction with radiation in a most relatable way, using the personal histories of the pioneering scientists who "discovered" it. Then the author goes on to discuss--and demystify--how to analyze the risks and benefits of radiation in many contexts, including natural sources of radiation like radon, nuclear medicine, nuclear powerplant accidents, and nuclear weapons. Anyone who reads this book carefully will be better able to understand the uses, benefits, and risks of radiation. Highly recommended.

Thorough, detailed discussion of the subject; sometimes a bit complicated, but interesting and (apparently) well-documented vignettes about the subject. Worth a read, IMHO. (The book jacket glows in the dark!)

Absolutely delightful read. He has skillfully merged many relevant stories into a dynamic learning experience. I will re-read this book to savor his perceptive style, wit and humble portrayal of historic figures.

Really appreciated the science-based information addressing Fukushima radioactivity and, specifically, why concerns about Pacific seafood are overblown. The book was recommended to me by a physician who considered it the most credible information he'd found on the subject.

Very educational and written in a very understandable way. The story line keeps you want to read. Really hard to make intersting story line of scientific subject to the general public. Great work highly recommended for people that want to find how radiation affects humans and the history behind it!!!PS read the footnotes lots of details.

Nice overall review of radiation. A must read for the lay audience interested in this incredible science.

An outstanding reference for flying in the Alps. If you are a visiting pilot this book is essential..!Great pictures, maps, site details including accommodation options, local clubs or schools, non flying activities etc.I even bought copies for my friends living in Europe which encouraged them to get out and visit new sites.

The book is very complete, the lay-out is beautiful and the information about the flying conditions and safety are a must read. If you plan to travel to the alps to fly, you should definitely buy it.

Arrived on time and the book itself is very helpful.

This book was really helpful on a recent trip to Korea. I would really recommend it as a quick reference for the language to anyone travelling there or wanting to learn Koean.

This is a very good book to have on you if you are going to be visiting Korea or just want to learn a few phrases.

This book has some useful phrases, but has some glaring omissions that are surprising.For example, the book provides both the hangel and romanized versions of the phrases in the book. It also has a small section on the Korean alphabet, but while it provides the romanized equivalents it doesn't have the actual hangel characters (what all written Korean is written in). For example, it states that "s" is a letter used in Korean, but it doesn't say that the hangel character for "s" is "ã……".It could also be a bit better at explaining when the phrases are best used. With honorifics in Korean it'd be helpful to be more clear on if a statement is formal or casually written. Some phrases are also probably not the most commonly used in everyday colloquialism.Even with its flaws it's still a useful reference for quickly getting a starting point on which phrases to be used as a tourist or if you need something in a pinch. There are probably better references however.

this is not a good phrasebook to take if you are actually traveling to korea! it may have hangul (korean characters) with the phrase/word translations, but this book does NOT teach hangul at all! the intro only tells you what hangul is and shows you all the sounds they make without showing the characters that make the sounds.this book does have the basics, vocabulary, and some grammar points at least. i would recommend this book only as another tool for studying korean. especially if you already know the korean alphabet!

As far as phrasebooks go this is a superior effort. It has the right balance of basic grammar, essential travel phrases, and culture notes to get one going without being intimidated by the Korean language. Particularly useful was the section on counting which has different forms depending upon what is being counted. All words and phases are given in romanized form as well as in Korean script. The booklet concludes with a short but handy vocabulary list. What is missing is a pronunciation guide for the Korean alphabet. While the author does furnish a table indicating how Korean vowels are pronounced, it is presented in romanized form with no accompanying Korean script. This is unfortunate because it is relatively easy to follow Korean pronunciation when reading from written Korean. Despite this flaw, this is one of the better phrasebooks available.

This book is RIDDLED with errors and phases that you will never hear EVER! Give any Korean a red pen and this book and half the book will be crossed out. And there is so many phases that are correct grammatically but only written and never spoken. Worst ever.
